Call For Papers

Black New England Conference
June 13 & 14, 2008

Black New England Stories: Literature, Art, and Oratory

The Center for New England Culture is soliciting papers for its 3rd Annual Black New England Conference. The theme for this year's conference is "Black New England Stories: Literature, Art, and Oratory." It will focus broadly on forms of Black expression and Black creativity in New England. Submissions are encouraged on major authors and artists as well as ones that tell little known stories: the North's connection to slavery; Black resistance, emancipation and self-emancipation; abolition movements; and Black family and community in New England. Individuals interested in submitting proposals should give particular thought to how literature, art or oratory was/is used by Blacks to discuss issues of the day. The Black New England Conference is a 2-day conference that gathers scholars, teachers, researchers, community members and members of local organizations to share their work and insights on the Black experience past and present in New England. The Conference is both an academic conference and a celebration of Black life and history in New England.

The Deadline for Call for Papers is February 1, 2008.
